Description
In this lesson, students learn about world cultures based on a reading text using the simple present passive. This is followed by vocabulary and grammar exercises to talk about manners. Finally, there is some controlled practice through True or False and Circle the correct word exercises and free practice via comparing between acceptable and unacceptable behaviours.

To provide gist, scan, deduction, inference and detailed reading practice using a text about manners in the context of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour
Procedure (45-55 minutes)
Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students
Ask the students to look at the pictures in p.22 and guess where these places are.
Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible
Introduce and explain blocking words before reading the text.
While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks
Asking the students eliciting questions and writing them on the board.
While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks
Using mind maps to connect the ideas of the text together. Also using word maps to relate the family of each word and its part of speech.
Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned
Answering some comprehension questions that ask about information in the text.
