Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about machines behaving badly in the context of technology

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of technology.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T: One day, I was sick and I had to tell my boss that I won't be able to make it to work that day. I sent him an e-mail but he didn't reply so I decided to text him. Still, he didn't see my message so I decided to call him. He answered me this time and I told him about my situation. T: What are we talking about today? S: Technology T: Yes, do you think that technology helped me ? S: Yes T: What types of technology do you know? S: tablets S: Smart phones S:....ect, T: Great, now in pairs think of 2 technologies that you like ? Open Pair demonstration T: Now, s ask s " What's your favorite technology?" S answer Repeat process with different students

Pre-Reading/ (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

While-Reading 1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading task

T: Now, we have a text. what do you think is it going to be about? S: Technology Ex.4 We have 7 paragraphs and 7 headings Match the paragraph to the heading that fits. T: Do we read quickly or slowly? Quickly T: Do we need to read the whole paragraph to find the the perfect heading? S: No T: Do we have to understand every single word? S: No T: What do we do if we find a word that we can't understand? S: Ignore it T: Let's do the first one together. Go through paragraph B and guess which heading fits.
