Teaching Practice 2
Pre-intermediate level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide an opportunity for students to develop their listening skill to get gists and specific information
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide an opportunity for students to practice their speaking and improve their fluency
Procedure (40-45 minutes)
I put the picture 4 or 5 famous people on the board and elicit their names from students. If they don't know them I will explain who they are and then I inform them why these are my favorite people by using the 'would like'. (writing on board)
I ask students to write 3 favorite famous people of their own. Then I ask them so stand up and ask the other students who their favorite famous people are and what they would like to do if they met these people. After finishing their task I get the WC FB by asking their friends favorite people. I want to check if they can use the subject of He or She for 'would like'.
In this part first I put 3 pictures for each conversation on the board and I write the names of the people in those conversations. Then I ask them in pairs to guess what is the context of listening and after that I elicit their answers. I won't give them any clue.
I write two questions on the board. 1. How well do the people know each other? 2. Why are they telephoning? Then After playing each track I pause and I give them half a minute to work in pairs and then I elicit their answers. If it is necessary, I will replay the tracks.
I give the hand outs to students (Unit 4D Page 42). They have to fill the gaps based on the conversation. But at first I ask them to work in pairs to guess what word could fill each gap. I will do the first one as an example so they have a clear picture of the task. Then they listen to both conversations and they check their answers in pairs and I get the WC FB.
I write part of the second conversation on the board (with some minor changes) and I erase one word from each sentence and students have to complete them. I will continue the erasing until few words remain on the board and it is more challenging for students to make the sentences.
