Procedure (28-38 minutes)
I will show a slide with the word story and ellicit if a story can be real or fiction and what kind of endings it can have
I will show a picture of Ryu and share a link to read Ryu's story. They will read for gist to discover if his story has a positive ending. Once they have finished, they will check in pairs using private messages on the chat.
1 Students will be given this slide and they will match and work Meaning and Appropriacy 2 They will then check their answers CCQs: What does ‘funny’ mean? Amusing, strange or both? (both) Is the experience over? (yes) By embarrassed he meant he was comfortable or ashamed? (ashamed) Was the story ending positive or negative? (positive) 3 Students will look at the sentences and colours will help them identify which part of speech there are. 4 They will recognize adjectives and time expressions. Then they will be able to change them for different ones to create new sentences. e.g., A terrible thing happened this morning. 5 I will show this slide and we will drill to check stress and intonation. I will encourage students to exaggerate the feeling expressed and slow them down.
For Controlled Practice students will do an interactive exercise rearranging sentences. For Freer Practice students will create their own stories and tell their partner taking turns. They will be encouraged to react to their partner's ideas.
After visiting breakout rooms I will end the lesson providing necessary feedback.
