TP1 Autograph Hunters

Description

In this lesson students will focus on reading a text about a man who makes money by selling autographs. The teacher will show the difference between a signature and an autograph by using some real autograps of famous people. Then the teacher will ask some discussion question to make the sts curious about the subject. This will be followed by 3 reading stages (reading for gist, reading for details and reading for reference) And finally the students will have a speaking, analyzing their partner's signature.

Main Aims

  • To practice reading for gist and detail in he context of signatures and their analyses.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To expose Ss to the time adverbials in the context.
  • To expose the students to the time adverbials in the context and teaching vocabulary

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (7-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher will sign the board and ask the students what it is to elicit the word "signature". And she will ask them analyze her character by looking at the signature. Then the teacher will show the other trainees' signatures to the students and ask the students to tell some adjectives about the owner of the signature - and ask them to guess which one is whose signature. Then the teacher will show the autograph of Ataturk and teach the word "autograph" And the teachers asks some discussion questions to make them have a clue about what they are going to read.

Vocabulary Pre-Teaching (5-7 minutes) • To prepare the students for text and make it accessible

The teacher will write the words that are possibly new for the students. And she will explain the meanings by giving examples to help them understand the taxt easily.

Reading For Gist (5-7 minutes) • To provide the students with less challenging gist reading

The teacher will ask the students what is the autograph man's job? and then she will ask them to match the questions in the first activity with the 5 paragraphs in the text.

Reading For Details (10-12 minutes) • To provide the students with more challenging detailed reading

The teacher will ask the students to read the text individually and put the phrases in activity 2 in the gaps in the text.And then she will ask them to check their answers with their pairs.

Reference Reading (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they have learnt

The teacher will ask the students to find some of the names, numbers and other specific information and to discuss their meanings in the text.

Speaking (5-6 minutes) • To help the students to practice the target language

The teacher will ask the students to show their signature to their partner and talk about their personalities based on their signatures.
