" Alan Alda, actor 2) "Being a star was never as much fun as dreaming of being one." Marilyn Monroe, film star I will ask Ss to think and decide if they agree with those quotes, and then I will call on Ss to share their thoughts.
I will show Ss a slide with examples of infinitives and gerunds and ask them to notice the pattern in each. Infinitives: to swim, to hope, to tell, to eat, to dream Gerunds: swimming, hoping, telling, eating, dreaming
Ss will take do a short practice quiz with five quotes from celebrities. Ss will select if the quote consists of an infinitive, gerund, or both. After Ss submit the quiz, followed by OCFB where they will justify their answers and point out the infinitives and gerunds.
I will present Ss with a slide with the definitions of infinitives and gerunds and explain their part in a sentence. Ss will work in small groups to answer five multiple choice questions on sentence construction with infinitives and gerunds.
We will have OCFB on the previous group task and I will provide more clarification and model pronunciation. Ss will do another practice individually. It will have five quotes to match with the correct sentence structure. I will review results and go over the ones that Ss had difficulties with.
Ss will do an independent task with five sentences that they must fill in the blanks with the correct form of either the infinitive or gerund. Ss will also need to choose one of the sentences and record themselves reading it with the correct pronunciation. I will have OCFB and review their answers with clarification.
Ss will post on a collaborative discussion board on Nearpod. It will have a question for them to answer as well as leave feedback of the lesson. What celebrity would you like to meet and what would you do with them; where would you go? (Use infinitives and/or gerunds in you answers.)
