Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Adverb of frequency in the context of healthy lives.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practise reading for gist and specific information.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students in the lesson by personalizing the topic.

1- Greet my students. 2- Show the students pictures of old people and ask them to guess their age. I can ask them ( what is common between all of them?) , if they wouldn't get it, I will ask them ( are they young?) 3- I will ask the students ( Do people live longer in your country either men or women? Why?) 4- Students will do the activity in pairs. I can do an open class discussion.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

1- I will ask students to read the first paragraph and try to set the highlighted words in the right order in ex (1b). 2- I will use the chart with percentages to elicit that ( always) means 100% sure, ( sometimes) means 50%. 3- Then I will show the form in the PowerPoint. 4- I will drill the adverbs to check the pronunciation and I will try to drill in full, simple sentences. 5- I can use ccqs and ask: the adverb comes before or after the verb to be?

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

1- I will ask to answer ex (1d) to use the highlighted adverbs. 2- I will ask them to check the answers in pairs. 3- After that, I will show the answer sheet.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To explicit the reading task by eliciting the challenging words.

Introducing the difficult words in the reading task: 1- I am practising ( Martial arts), display a picture to highlight that it includes all fight sports. Model and drill. 2- (gardening) ; ( context) and (PP) my father has a small garden. He likes to take care of it and organize it from time to time. This action we call it gardening. 3- (Meditate), display a picture on the PP and ask them to guess the meaning.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

1-Ask Ss to read the first paragraph to guess what is ( unusual) about the Okinwan people, what is the secret behind it? 2- Debate the answers with Ss and ask the rest of the class if they agree or not? why? 3- Ex 2b match the heading with the paragraphs. 4- Ask Ss to answer the first one only then demonstrate the answers. For example: a) why we choose the title healthy diet? b) Does the paragraph have anything about food or vegetables. The same goes for the second sentence. 5- Answer the rest individually. Check answers in pairs. Display the answer key on the PP.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ex ( 4) the speaking 1- Demo the first sentence with the students. Model then drill (how often do you do exercise? 2- T s interaction pattern in modeling the first three questions. 3- Do some open pairs as a demonstration.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice to speak the target language

1- Ask Ss to stand up and ask everyone in the room any questions from 1 to 10. 2- Encourage them to have conversations to discover who has the best lifestyle. 3- Ask these ICQs: a- How many questions do you have? ten. b- will you ask one person or everyone? 4- Mointer the Ss and get content feedback by asking them who have the best lifestyle?
