Description

In this lesson, the students learn lexis related to education through guided discovery of meaning, form, and pronunciation; reading for gist; less controlled practice; and freer practice. The student will use activities designed in Google Forms, Jamboard, and Slides to support learning.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have had clarification on the meaning, form and pronunciation of selected lexis related to changing careers and practiced this in a controlled and freer exercise.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of changing careers.

Procedure

Lead in activity: Setting context (5 minutes) • To engage learners and activate their previous knowledge of topic area

Ss will share their ideas in OCFB. T will ask what information could be added to this form. Ss will discuss in Open Class Discussion.

Vocabulary Presentation: MFP (5 minutes) • To cover MPF of key vocabulary to aid in the completion of the tasks

T will call on Ss throughout teaching vocabulary to elicit own words to define vocabulary, to say the type of word, the number of syllables and the stress. Structure of vocabulary teaching: Is education ______ or _____? What kind of word is ? How many syllables does have? Repeat after me Type of questions ask to check Ss understanding of vocabulary What is a good grade in Mexico? What qualifications do you need to be a professor? What is another word for students?

Controlled Practice (8 minutes) • To allow learners to familiarize with vocabulary in a sentence

Less-controlled Practice (10 minutes) • To gives students more room to personalize the language they are using and communicate their own ideas

Freer-Practice (11 minutes) • To allow learners to get a deeper understanding vocabulary with a question that asks for personal opinion

Ss to Ss (role play) T will give Ss a role play to do in pairs using dialogue structure from less-controlled practice One of them will be the interviewer and the other will be the interviewee. Once finished, they will switch roles. In this way they will have an interview where they need to ask for the information that we’ve seen in today’s lesson. They will rejoin the main room for OCFB.

Feedback (3 minutes) • To provide learners with feedback on the completion of the task.
