Use the pictures and information from the previous lesson (reading) and get students to tell you about the people, helping them to use he/she/they as apprpriate. Elicit some examples on to the WB.
Highlight the use of the verb be to students from the examples on the WB. And the use of contractions. Also help students with the pronunciation of the contracted form e.g. He's/we're
Demo folding handout so that only exercise 1 is visible. Ask if they will do exercise 2 (answer: no) Model on the WB contracting pronouns with being verbs in a sentence. Ask students to do exercise 1 in pairs. Check answers with WC.
Model on the WB filling in a being verb. Tell and mime to students they will first write the exercise and then practice saying the sentences with their partner. Unfold paper and begin. Check answers with WC.
Draw on the board stick figures for a man, a woman, and a couple with info about names, where they're from and their phone numbers. Solicit sentences from students about these stick figures by asking "What's his name?" "Where are they from?" etc.. Write their sentences on the board.
Demo the activity. Divide students into pairs A/B. Give student A HO from page 114. Give student B HO from page 118. students in pairs share info and write in the missing information. Get students to report back giving full answers for feedback.
Students will write 3 statements with being verbs about their partner. They can use the blank back page of one of their HOs. Feedback will be 2 to 3 students reading a sentence aloud.
