Subsidiary Aims
-
The usage and difference between this conditional and others.
Procedure (29-39 minutes)
Try to elicit from the students the idea of regret. Introduce regrets about the past as the topic of the day
Play the Material A ( video ) and let the students watch it first.
ask Ss about the video and see if they remember any of the used conditional sentences in it. *If I’d known, I would have worn something nicer.* *I definitely would’ve remembered if you’d told me!* *He wouldn’t have missed the bus if he hadn’t overslept.* .....
Divide the students into two groups and give them the first hand out. Let them work together and discover the rules for themselves. When they have finished, do a whole class feedback and go over the rules as quickly as possible.
Group the students into pairs and give them the next HO#2 Instruct them to Match the sentences to form a true conditional sentence. Have them check with other pairs and then do a whole class feedback, asking for additional explanations. If the students seem to struggle and have trouble understanding, offer extra clarification. If not, proceed to the next stage.
now in this part Ss would go through a practice organized in a way to work like CCQ exercise and see if Ss can understand the concept of the lesson and usage of third conditional. teacher can here do the first exercise or ask the students to do them alone accordingly. and then we check the answers with the class.
This part varies according to the class and level if the Ss are already active and they feel free to talk you can start the free practice by just asking a question like: If you had been born a boy/girl, how would your life have been different? or if the class and students are a little not sure about what they`re going to talk about you can use the second way: Group the students in pairs and tell them to think about their mistakes and regrets from the past and talk about them with their partners. Model the activity by sharing some of your own regrets using the TL.
