Description

In this lesson students find out about unusual achievements in order to enrich students language. The lesson starts nominating Ss to answer a question, they give their opinions. Then key vocabulary is presented, Ss listen and answer a Google form, check answers in pairs and then with the whole class. Finally, Ss discuss the topic in the breakout room, using questions and useful language given by the teacher to guide the conversation. The class ends with FB and DEC.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide practice and review verb-noun collocations.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of using verb + noun collocations.
  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about a soccer player.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I share my screen to show them an example of the matching game they are going to play, first they have to click on the link, write their names, press enter and group the words, after I share the link using the chatbox.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I give Ss Gform link, they read the dialogue and extract verb + noun combinations from the text and before submit their answers check answers in pairs via private messages on the chatbox, then they will submit their answers before OCFB where we will check their answers together with Gform results.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In a Gform students select images according to the capitalized words.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Now, students go to a worldwall game where they have to match the words to the meaning by dragging them. They check answers in pairs using private messages on the chat box for 1 minute. Then I will share the answers. I will ask students about the form by showing them examples from the previous dialogue and ask questions like: Is beat a verb? is team a noun? and so on with the other examples. I highlight VERB+NOUN FORM. After that I will ask them about the stress on the target language I will use the Zoom tools to draw on the screen over my slides.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students play a game in worldwall: they have to drag the words to complete the text, students will have 4 minutes to do the task. Then they check their answers in pairs in Breakout rooms for two minutes before OCFB.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Now I show instructions in a Slide: First, Ss use TL in questions and ask their peers, I will give them 2 min to prepare their questions and 4 minutes in breakout rooms to work with them. In the feedback I nominate ss to share their what they found about their peers. Finally in DEC I will focus on pronunciation.
