Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about a conversation about the weekend in the context of weekend activities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of weekend activities

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will remind students it is Friday and ask the next question: What do you usually do on the weekends? Why? They will participate sharing ideas.

Pre-Listening (4-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will share a Jamboard slide with the next words: ILL, QUIET, GO AWAY FOR THE WEEKEND, STAY, and STAY IN and I will ask students to match the different words to the corresponding picture. Students will participate orally in order to give the right answers.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will share a Google Forms document with pictures of four different people and four short written conversations. Students will listen to the recording and match the people to the short conversations. After that, students will do peer checking sending private messages on Zoom chat. Finally, I will provide feedback.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

This time I sill share a new Google Forms document with questions taken from the two conversations in which students must check True or False. Once they finish they will check their answers in pairs . After that, there will be feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (5-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will share a slide with the next questions: 1. How was your weekend last week? 2. Imagine there is no pandemic. What are your plans for this weekend? I will send them to breakout rooms on Zoom to discuss and when they come back, they will report their ideas to the class. I will provide feedback and later DEC. After that I will tell students the lesson is over wishing them a nice weekend.
