To provide gist and deduction reading practice using a text about STaycations in the context of using various forms of Not
Procedure (35-41 minutes)
T Greets students and asks them how they are doing. T starts in with a lead-in, Asking the class to please read the first paragraph of the passage provided SS work in pairs and discuss their predictions about what a staycation is OCFB
Allow the students to read the passage completely. Students will be primed to look for the MAIN IDEAS when reading the text After students will work in BOR's and answer the questions to the WordWall MC game. OCFB
Work together and ask the class if the terms match (form) with the phrases and which each statement as a whole represented. The words included Must not Hope -->> doesn't You don't have to Let's not and the Negative Infinitives Share a link to Word Wall MC questions about meaning. Students match the phrase with a similar context in respect to staycations
Identify the sentence pairs and distinguish whether they flow or whether they have to be changed in order. Provide brief demonstration with of the form Provide Word wall Link to play Unscramble Sentences were provided from the text that is jumbled up They contain the various practices that NOT can be used as. E.g. She decided NOT to go to Japan EG2 Let's not ignore the other benefits. OCFB
Demonstrate on Jamboaard Ask each student to repeat Ask CCQ's to follow up with where the stressors are in each phrase Confirm the linking I demonstrated on the slide is accurate Drill OCFB
Provide task on JAmbaord Students will work in groups to fill in each of the 7 blanks. OCFB
Move to Slide on Jambaord Ask the class to work in pairs and to note what they would do if they were on a staycation ( 2 examples) They would then follow up with, Would you eat out or order in? What would you eat? OCFB and Discussion (Note, Can the students report their classmate's answers?)
