By the end of this lesson, students will have been introduced to the meaning, pronunciation and form of the past simple to talk about life experiences in the context of famous films and been given opportunities for controlled written and freer oral practice
Subsidiary Aims

have developed their ability to read for gist and specific information with particular reference to an article on famous films.
Procedure (45-59 minutes)
Show students a picture of Yousef Shahin, the famous Egyptian director and ask them the following questions: Do yo know him? Who is he? When did he die? 2006 Did he have a lot of films?
T: ask students to read the text and underline all the past tense verbs to notice the rule. Ask students what kind of verbs they are.
Ask students How do we make the past simple of regular verbs? What do we do when the verb ends in e? What do we do when the verb ends in y?
T inputs some examples for the rule. They are selected items from the text.
Students prepare the task and work together to answer in pairs. T monitors and provide any particular language needed.
T write 2 sentences on the board and ask CCQs . Is it in the present, past or future? past Is it finished? yes Do we know when it happened? Yes Then T drill the sentence with students. How can we make a question?
Controlled Practice: T: fill in the gaps with the past simple of verbs. Students work in pairs. FB on the board. Semi controlled Practice: T ask students to arrange questions and demo the first sentence with them. T drill it. T gives language feedback.
