To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a discussion in the context of being in a hurry
Procedure (53-67 minutes)
-T greets ss and ice breaks with them -T shows slide 2 and starts asking questions: *What are these people doing? *Are they calm and relaxed? *Why are they in a hurry? *Are you in a hurry? Why? -T turns to slide 3 and nominates one of them to read the question. -T asks ss to watch a short video clip to find the answer. -T asks ss to share their answers. -T listens and gives feedback.
-T shows slide 3 and gives instructions: *It's a quiz. *You have 3 mins to choose an answer for each question -T gives instructions again when time is up: *Now go to BORs and check your answers with your friends *Find out your answers are alike or different -T sends them to BORs to have a peer-check. -T monitors them. -T brings them back in the main room and one by one check their answers.
-T shows slide 3 with 6 sentences and gives instructions: *Read each sentence *Circle the correct answer. You can get a help from the previous quiz. -When they are done, T nominates them to share their answers -T check the correct answers with the whole class. -T listens and gives feedback. -T shares the answers with the ss
-T shows slides 5,6,7 in a row and starts asking CCQs to clarify MFP: *Slide 5 -Does 'patient' describe the person or the verb? -Does 'patient' come before noun or after it? -Can we delete the noun after 'patient'? -Is 'patient' an adv or an adj? -What's the verb? -Do we use an adj after 'to be'? -What's the form? subject+..... *Slide 6 -Does this sentence mean 'His voice is terrible'? -Does the verb 'sound' is synonym of 'to be'? -Is terrible an adj or an adv? -Do we use an adj after 'sound' as a verb? -What's the form? subject+.... *Slide 7 -Do we have 'to be' in the sentence? -What's the verb then? -How do you wait in lines? -Does 'patiently' describe the verb or sthelse? -Is 'patiently'an adv or an adj-? -How do you know it's an adv? -What's the form? subject+.... -T continues with slides 8,9,10 to give extra information on grammar by eliciting.
-T shows slide 11 and gives instructions: *Find the mistakes in these sentences and write the correct form. -T gives them time to do the activity. -when time's over, T checks the answers with the whole class and asks the reason. -T listens and gives feedback.
-T shows slide 12 and gives the instructions: *Fill in the gaps with the correct form of the words in parantheses *Some of them are adjs and others advs ICQs: Are you going to use only adverbs? -T checks the answers with the whole class when they are done. -Ss one by one read the sentences and give the correct answers. -T listens and gives feedback. -T gives new instructions: *Go to BORs and discuss these situations with your friends. Are they true in your culture? -T monitors them. -T brings them back in the main rooms and asks ss to share their ideas. -T listens and gives feedback.
-T shows the last slide including 3 qs -T nominates one of the ss to read the qs. -T gives the instructions *You have 2 mins to think about these qs. -when time's up, T gives instructions again: *Now go to BORs and share your ideas over these qs. -T sends them to BORs and monitors them. -T brings them back in the main room and asks them to share their ideas - T listens and gives feedback.
