• Reading an article about a man who builds houses from recycled materials; Garbage Warrior 2.• Talking about materials we reuse and recycle at home.
Subsidiary Aims

Using the present simple passive to talk about what happens to waste.
Procedure (18-36 minutes)
• Teacher writes the word “waste” on the board and explains the meaning (material or matter that is rejected or thrown away; garbage, rubbish, or trash. • Teacher introduces the idea of recycling materials and asks students for examples of items that can be recycled. e.g. plastic, paper, cardboard.
• Teacher asks students to use the worksheet provided, look at the pictures and try to answer the three questions in pairs. • Teacher checks answers with the class. Answers: 1. Houses 2. Recycled materials 3. To stop and fight waste. • Teacher tells students that they are going to listen to an article about Mike Reynolds; the garbage warrior. • Teacher and students elicit and explain the meanings of some new vocabularies (warrior, tyres, recycled, decorations...)
• Teacher puts students into pairs and asks them to read the article and answer the questions in number 3. Stronger students are encouraged to offer greater detail when the teacher asks them for an answer. • Together teacher and students check and highlight the answers on the board. • Exploring words in context
• Teacher asks students to work alone to match the meaning of the words with their definitions using the context to help. • Fast finishers can write sentences using the above-given words.
The teacher presents some pictures of household and school items that can be recycled and used and asks students to come up with recycling ideas. Homework is given for extra practice and language enhancement.
Whole class feedback session to answer any possible questions or difficulties found in the article.
