Subsidiary Aims
-
To give students semi-controlled speaking practice to develop their spoken accuracy
Procedure (40-53 minutes)
T will hand four sentences over to the Ss, they will be divided into four groups. The Ss will work together in order to unjumble the sentences and then write theirs on the WB. Finally, Ss will have to guess which present form is used in each and every one of these sentences.
T will use the WB and a lot of gestures, in order to explain how to recognize the two presents at first, their meaning (through one word), try to explain them with the use of symbols (time scale) and show their difference in language. Moreover, T will provide the students some guidelines about the state verbs, starting this through the famous MacDonald's motto : "I'm loving it!"
T hands out exercise sheets to Ss, they will be in pairs. Ss have to work on a special exercise in which they have to choose between the two presents. WCF
Ss in pairs, for each pair there is one student A and the other one is B. T will give them two sets of pictures of a wedding reception, Ss will have to work together (still by twos) in order to find the differences between both pictures. Every group will have to find and tell at least one difference to get the WCF. Test their use of present continuous.
If T has the time to do it, Ss will read the paragraph "Did you know?" individually then working in groups they will try to answer these questions and gather as much informations as they can: - Are weddings the same in your country ? - What wedding traditions do you have in your country ? T will designate a group to ask another and listen to the Ss statements.
