Description

In this lesson, students learn about Present Perfect with Ever/Never through guided discovery based on past experiences. This lesson starts with a dialogue between two people discussing Public Speaking. This is followed by eliciting the form, meaning and usage of the given Grammar structure in a controlled, semi-controlled and freer practice through peer interaction

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss are given a simple matching exercise with 3 definitions including the word 'conference' which will be used in the context of the lesson. T gives them 1 minute to think and then discuss the answers together. Ss answer only by raising their hands through a software.

Exposure (10-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss read and listen to the dialogue between two people related to their previous experiences. They need to find which tenses were used. T's role is to provide clear instructions, play the recording and check answers.

Highlighting and Clarification (10-10 minutes) • To highlight, clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher elicits the structure of Present Perfect (Affirmative, Negative, Interrogative), its meaning, usage and pronunciation of 'never' and 'ever'. Ss discover the target language through past experiences, peers and predictions. T projects the next slide with two examples Present Perfect and Simple Past. Ss answer CCQs.

Controlled Practice (8-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T sends Ss into Breakout room. Ss work in pairs and correct 8 sentences from the course book exercise. T monitors the process visiting every room. They check answers through a whole class activity.

Semi-Controlled and Freer Practice (12-12 minutes) • To concept check further, prepare students for free practice and have a freer practise

Ss look at the slide with different action verbs. T elicits and demonstrates their form in the target language. T asks them to practice interrogative questions and short answers with each other. They need to make up and add one extra sentence. T checks their production through asking questions about their partners.
