Description

In this lesson students learn about the subject questions (questions without auxiliary verbs) using the PPP framework in teaching grammar. The lesson starts with a lead-in game game that will activate the students followed by exposing the students to the TL through a quiz exercise to find the differences. This stage will be followed by the highlighting stage and clarification for the function form and intonation .This stage if followed by a controlled , semis controlled and freer practice in the form of a speaking exercise and ends with delayed error correction and wrapping up.

Main Aims

  • For students to understand the function, form , meaning of question without auxiliary (subject questions)in the context of weekends ,free time and relaxation.

Subsidiary Aims

  • for students to practice speaking through having conversation about the interesting people in their lives.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T greets students and asks some of them about how was their weekend to build rapport. - T asks some ICQs before starting the game. - T invites students to play an online game about the activities that some people did in the last weekend. - T monitors students while doing the game.

Exposure (3-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text .

- T shows students two groups of questions and asks them to find the difference in pairs . - T elicits the correct answers.

Highlighting (4-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- T highlights the difference between the two groups of the questions by referring to the existence of the auxiliary verbs. - T introduces the term " Auxiliary Verbs" to students . - T elicits some other examples of auxiliary verbs . - T show students a group of the most common auxiliary verbs in English.

Clarification (12-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-T explains the function of the subject questions ( questions without auxiliary ). - T draws students' attention to the difference between the subject and object questions in terms of function and the existence of the auxiliary verbs in the question . - T asks some CCQs to check understanding . - T explains form of the subject questions. - T asks some CCQs to check understanding. - T shows the intonation and pronunciation of the subject questions. T- T asks some CCQs to check understanding.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-T asks students to choose the correct answer from the box in groups . - T asks some ICQs before sending students to the breakout rooms. - T monitors students in the breakout rooms. - T highlights existence of the auxiliary verbs in some sentences.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

- T asks students to find five mistakes in 8 questions in groups . - T asks some ICQs questions before sending the students to the breakout rooms for 5 minutes. - T monitors students in the breakout rooms. - T elicits the correct answers from students .

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-T asks students to have conversations in pairs asking and answering questions about interesting people in their lives. - T asks students some ICQs before sending them to the breakout rooms. - T sends students to the breakout rooms and monitors the students while having these conversations . - T writes down some notes about the students mistakes in this stage to be discussed in the delayed error correction stage in a written form. - T wraps up the lesson and finishes it.
