In this lesson, students learn how to write a website review and follow the lay down process.

Main Aims

  • To provide process writing practice of a writing in the context of a website review.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To engage learners and activate their schemata (previous knowledge) and set the context of the class.

T shows ss pictures of different website. T asks ss, “Which of this website do you use? T asks ss Why do they use the website? T asks ss, “What are the benefits of using the website of their choice? T asks ss, “What are the challenges of using the website?” DEMO: T gives sample answer: about the website he likes and why.” INSTRUCTIONS: With a partner discus the above questions in a BOR /2min T sends ss in pairs to BOR to discuss. T nominates ss to give their reason.

Gist (2-2 minutes) • To provide an initial familiarity with the text

T displays slide with website review T instructs SS to read quickly (1min) and What is the objective of this task? T elicits suggestions from SS. Possible Answers:

Layout (5-5 minutes) • To analyze and/or identify elements of layout that provide coherence and cohesion in the text.

T gives Google Form link in chatbox. INSTRUCTIONS: Look at each section and select the relevant title Ind. / 1min ICQs: How long do you have? (1 min) T shows slides of each 4 sections, asking CCQs and pointing out relevant points along the way.

Useful language (5-5 minutes) • To analyze and/or identify language conventions in the text.

APPROPRIACY T asks SS if they remember reading any first-person pronouns (no, because it is impersonal) T asks if the review was formal or informal? Very formal. MEANING (2min) T shows slides of three items: -Rhetorical Questions. -What I love about -It is recommended that… T elicits synonyms for conclusion and recommendation FORM (3min) T nominates SS to point out sentences in noun clause(noun clause + main idea), Example: What I love about...., Users can/ users have freedom to; downside/ disadvantage, However T uses slide to demonstrate sentence structure to identify the location of an item using the noun clause. T nominated S to give answers to remaining questions, correcting as necessary.

Parallel Writing (5-5 minutes) • To practice the layout and language conventions previously seen in writing some writing exercises.

T tells SS they are a website reviewer, and they have to write a review about a website. T shows a sample of the website they have to review. INSTRUCTIONS: write down the layout and language used to organize the website. Which paragraph? a) Give information about the website b) Introduction to the review c) The way to Surf the website d) Give negative opinions

Free Practice (15-15 minutes) • To produce a similar text based on the sample for fluency purposes.

T gives link to Google Dec. INSTRUCTIONS: Write a review based on your list. Make sure you have all 4 sections. Add at least 1 problem that is not pictured.
