To provide detailed reading practice using a text about 100 places to visit before you die in the context of travel

By the end of the lesson, students will have read a text about 100 places to visit before you die to practise reading for specific information. They will also have a chance to practise writing activity about the places they want to travel in their next summer holiday to personalize the topic of the text in a meaningful way.

Procedure (35-44 minutes)
I will start the lesson with an open discussion by asking them two questions related to their past experiences about travelling. The two questions are:- 1- What are the places you visited in your life? 2- And in your opinion what is the best place you visit? or Which one do you like the most?
I will show them the picture of the (Canyon). Then, I will ask them some eliciting question as - What can you see in this picture? Then, I will ask them CCQs after setting the definition as: Canyon is a deep long narrow valley with steep sides. -Is it a deep long valley? - Is it wide or narrow? - put this word in a sentence. Then I will say the word for three times then you will repeat after me. Then I will ask one of them to help me write the spelling of the word. I also will ask them if it's a noun, a verb or adjective? *********** I will show them the picture of the (Cliff). Then, I will ask them some eliciting question as - What can you see in this picture? Then, I will ask them CCQs after setting the definition as: Cliff is a high area of land with a very steep side, especially one next to the sea. -Is it a high area or a deep area of land? -Does it have a steep sides? - Did you see a cliff before and when? Then I will say the word for three times then you will repeat after me. Then I will ask one of them to help me write the spelling of the word. I also will ask them if it's a noun, a verb or adjective ? **************** I will show them the picture of the (meadow). Then, I will ask them some eliciting question as - What can you see in this picture? Then, I will ask them CCQs after setting the definition as: Meadow is a field which has grass and flowers growing in it. - Is it a field or garden? -Does it have flowers in it? -Give me a sentence example. Then I will say the word for three times then you will repeat after me. Then I will ask one of them to help me write the spelling of the word. I also will ask them if it's a noun, a verb or adjective ?
* They will do a Gist reading task. That's ; I will ask them some questions and they have to answer them individually while doing this task, I monitor the class . After doing the task, I give the whole class feedback. the Questions are: - 1- What is the title of the text? 2- How many paragraphs do we have here? 3-Give me the order of the top natural wonders around the world. * They will read in detail to find answers of the questions. I will give them some questions to solve them in pairs and during the task, I monitor the class. Then, I give the whole class feedback. The task is: - - choose the correct answer : - 1-The Grand Canyon is in ........ ( Italy - USA - Egypt - Jordan ) 2- The city of ....... was built in rocky cliffs and was once an important commercial city. ( Venice - Las Vegas - Petra ) 3- The favourite place of lovers all over the world . ( Cairo - Istanbul - Venice ) 4- Koh Samui is covered with ......... trees. ( palm - coconut - plum )
I will ask my students to write in groups of 3 " a paragraph about the places they are going to visit the next summer holiday." while doing the task, I monitor and help them with vocabs and expressions they need.
