Procedure (111-177 minutes)
At the beginning of the class, the teacher will play an exciting silent video about traveling consisting of different cities and places. Then students try to talk about the video and their understanding indivualy.
Students read sentences 1 to 11 and understand the meaning of the words through the contexts, then they should put the correct words in the correct place to understand the synonyms of each word. After that, they will check their answers in pairs under the supervision of a teacher. ( correction happens on the spot)
The teacher starts listening with a question: '' what are 5 things that you like about travel? '' students should talk about it individually. After that Teacher will play the listening audio which is a conversation between two friends, they talk about their life experiences and their travels. Students listen to the conversation and at the same time, they will complete the first part. (part A). After that, they will check the first part with their teacher. Then for the next part ( part B) they should listen again and complete the blank parts and check their answers with the teacher.
Teacher starts the grammar with this sentence : My friends and I have traveled to Italy. ( underline have traveled with another color) Then teacher asks them '' Do you know the exact time of this action?'' and tries to explain and attract their attention to this sentence and the time of this action. After that teacher writes another example on the board '' We have been (’ve been) to France.'' and this time tries to explain the contraction form too. Then gives them a list of irregular and regular verbs to take a look at past participle form of the verbs. After that explain the usage of ''have'' and ''has'' and writes some examples of each. Now teacher starts negative sentences by using 2 examples. We have not climbed (haven’t climbed) a mountain in Italy. She has not bought (hasn’t bought) a lot of souvenirs. (again using a different color for have not climbed and has not bought ) After that teacher combining past simple and present continuous and clarifies the usage and differences. The next step is completing the rules and filling the gaps which students should do in pairs. In part C, students in pairs should find and write the past simple and past participle of the verbs. After the teacher makes sure that students fully understand the positive and negative structures, explains the question forms and as feedback, they can do part E in pairs.
In this part, the teacher starts with some pictures of life experiences and asks about these pictures as a warm-up. To practice more the new structure, the teacher provides a table that consists of some life experiences and will ask them to use Have you ever .........? and for knowing more details about that experience, they should use the past tense and practice the conversation in pairs under the supervision of other groups and teacher. It means that when they finished the conversation, they can have the conversation and the other groups can give them feedback.
Part A: For the pre-reading section, there are some questions that the teacher will ask students to engage and get them familiar with what are they going to read. Part B: In part B they will read the passage and after that teacher will explain new words for them and clarify MFP which is the meaning, form, and pronunciation of each new word. Also key phrases and useful phrases. After the teacher's explanation about the new vocabularies, as feedback, he/she asks students to make sentences with some of the new words. Parc C and Part D: These tasks are for reading for details, so students should answer these parts and check them in pairs under the teacher's supervision. After they finished this reading part, teacher will focus on grammatical sentences and ask them to underline / highlight the new grammatical structure which is present perfect .
In this part (Part A) students look at some pictures of Means of transport. They should match the pictures with the new words. For more practice of the new vocabularies, they should do part B. There are some questions about the means of transport. Students in pairs ( or divide the class into 2 groups) discuss these questions under the supervision of teachers. Correction can be done on the spot or the teacher can write the common mistakes on the board and practice them after the discussion.
Teacher will play the correct pronunciation of the means of transport and students have to repeat after the pause.
This activity is consists of 4 related topics in one A4 paper. Teacher will give each student one paper. #1 Have you ever tried Mexican food? How was it? Describe it. #2 Has your mother/father/ sister/brother/ your friend gone to another country? Describe it. #3 What was the last exciting experience that you had? #4 Write an Email to your colleague and describe your last holiday. Students should write a paragraph about each of the titles according to the teacher's order. For example, the teacher says ''start write about the second title'' and while they are writing about the second title, the teacher changes the title and says now go to the fourth title, and they try to write an email. Then the teacher says to write the first title. ( teacher almost gives 30 seconds for each title and changes the title after 30 seconds .) For example : #2 then #4 then #1 then # 2 then # 3 then #1 then #4 then ......... After they finish their writing, students correct each others' papers inside the classroom.
