In this lesson ,SS will learn about participle clauses based on a text about celebrities.

Materials

Abc a video, a PowerPoint ,WS ,pictures

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson ,SS will have practiced participle clauses in the context of reading about celebrities.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson SS will be able to use participle clause in speaking and writing about their experiences.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows a slide and ask SS to look at the pictures and complete the sentences. SS work in pairs to discuss their answers Tasks ICQs to check understanding: How many words are you going to write ? How long are you going take to finish the task?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T asks SS to read the text to answer the questions . SS read the questions first. Then, they work in groups to answer the questions

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T asks SS to read again the text to answer the questions on the participle clauses. SS work in groups to do the task and check their answers.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T presents the target language and clarifies the meaning by giving examples .Then ,T explains the form and highlight it. T explains the differences between the present continuous and the present participle clause.

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T sets the task and check understanding by asking ICQs. SS work in groups to do the task .T gives feedback by showing the SS the answers. T gives feedback when needed.

Free Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T sets the task and models the task .T asks SS to write 2 sentences about their favorite movies using the participles clauses. SS work in groups to discuss their sentences .
