Main Aims

To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about popular culture in the context of secrets of popular culture
Subsidiary Aims

To provide review and practice of names(nouns) given to people in the context of popular culture

To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of popular culture
Procedure (39-49 minutes)
-T shows the Ss couple of images -Ss breifly discuss the image and predict the title (Popular Culture) -T uses elicitation for the Ss to say- Popular culture-
- T tells students that they will read a text soon so the Ss understand the purpose of this stage. -S- start predicting the text content -T shows them images of nouns they might not know. and uses elicitation to get the answers. -T drills the words and displays spelling, phonemic, stress and syllable Pre-reading (2) -T groups the Ss and exposes the questions related to the text they will read. -Ss discuss the questions in PW. they will predict the answers. discussion.
-Ss are divided in to Group A and Group B -Group A will close their eyes so Group B can take a screen shot (can be sent as image on word doc) -Ss will word in PW or GW depending on number of Ss. - This will be a skim read for gist (take notes) -Ss should identify which Questions relate to their text. -Peer checking will be done before class feed back -T shows Answer key
-Ss read the text alone for reading for detail -Ss answer the questions according to which group they are in. (alone) -They can only write 5 words they need to explain the answer. -ICQ to check they know what to do -The students grouping change so that A goes with a B to break out room - Ss discuss the answers taking further 5 words to answer remaining Q's.
-T modals the task (Her reaction to one of the questions) -T elicits what she just did. What did I just do? Give my opinion. What suprised me? and what I predicted? -Ss cover their notes and have a chance each to express their opinions about one answer they found interesting/predictable/ strange... etc - ICQs always used.
