Procedure (23-30 minutes)
- Show the students some photos on the PowerPoint presentation. - Give them some time to think. - Ask them to discuss what they think with each other . - Monitor the struggling students. - Ask some question to generate their interest in the topic
- Show them the words and the definitions and ask them to stand up and match. - Ask CCQs to make sure they understand everything in the passage in order to facilitate the reading process and save energy.
- Pick the reading passage. - Set the context and tell the students that the reading passage is about the changes in Michael's life. - Ask the students to read quickly and get the main idea. - Mime to make them understand what i want them to exactly do. - Ask ICQs like: do you have to understand each word? - Present the reading passage in the PowerPoint presentation. - Give them some time to read. - Ask them to check in pairs and then the whole class feedback
- Ask the students if they can guess today's rule. - Ask CCQs like: Did he smoke? Once or many times? Does he smoke now? - Repeat the target language: He used to smoke. - Write down the form on the white board (and the negative one)
- Start with a controlled activity. - Get a stopwatch and the students will be divided into 2 groups and asked to write down as many sentences as they can using the rule (Freer Activity) - Recap and give a whole class feedback
- Ask the students to talk about their life in the past and their life now.
