Description

In this lesson, the students are going to learn how to do an academic presentation using the theme of living in a city (For example: Istanbul). In the lesson, T is going to explain the theme for the students, give the Ss few tips on how to conduct an excellent presentation at university level. T is going to give few tasks for Ss to learn how to prepare an academic presentation and allow them to present in classroom.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Academic presentation and vocabulary in the context of Living in a city (e.g Istanbul)

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students for the presentation

-T welcomes Ss in the classroom. -T tapes three pictures on the board about three different cities -T starts asking Ss about what they know about these cities using CCQ -T highlights the new vocabulary by writing them on board using mind map and asking CCQ -T introduce the context for the students (Academic presentation) & context (Living in a city)

Task #1 (2-4 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

-T assigns students in pair for the first task -T gives the details about the task (The pair should write what they will do in a new city for example Istanbul) -T gives the instructions to the students and ask CCQ to see if they know the rules. -T observes the students while writing without interrupting the students or correcting them.

Planning #1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students' reports

-T asks the Ss to rehearse what they wrote individually to present later. -T walks beside the Ss and checks if they need help. -T answers the questions of the Ss -T highlights any language errors that need to be mentioned at the end.

Report #1 (3-5 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

-T asks the Ss to come on stage and present what they prepared. -T encourages the Ss to ask the presenter some questions. -T gives feedback and tips for the presenter about the content and how it was presented. -T asks the students to choose the best plan to do in a new city.

Task #2 (2-4 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

-T assigns the students in new pairs for the second task. -T gives details about the task (T draws X mark on the board and put different point on the board, each point represents a pair, the Ss need to give directions on how to reach the X mark and what they saw on the road) -T gives the instructions for the Ss and ask CCQ to check if they comprehended the instructions. -T asks the Ss to write the information in a piece of paper.

Planning #2 (3-5 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students' reports

-T asks the Ss to rehearse what they wrote individually and prepare themselves to present on board. -T walks beside the Ss and checks if they need help. -T answers the questions of the Ss and highlights any language errors that need to be mentioned at the end.

Language Analysis (4-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

-T thanks the students for thier presentations. -T highlights the language that should be used in academic presentation and give examples from the presentations. -T highlights the mistakes that the Ss did in the presentations and how to avoid them. -T ends the lesson
