To provide gist and detailed reading to introduce the irregular simple past verb usage and elicit the verbs from
Procedure (37-42 minutes)
- Put three pictures on the board. - Ask Ss to talk about them in two minutes in pairs. - As WC, ask some information questions about the pictures
Gist reading - Ask Ss to read the text quickly and match them with pictures on the board individually. - Let Ss check in pairs. - Ask one or two Ss to talk about their answers. Pre-teaching vocabulary - Give an example of a good experience you've had in the past to elicit Memorable. - If the word isn't elicited, give it yourself and teach is based on MFP order. Detailed reading - Ask Ss to read the text individually and answer the detailed questions. - Ask them to check in pairs. - Let them check their responses from the pieces of paper stuck under their tables.
- Read the verbs to make sure Ss are familiar with them. - Ask Ss to wok in pairs and find past irregular verbs from the text to complete the chart. - Play the audio and ask them to check their answers. - Play the audio again and ask Ss to repeat after each pause.
- Choose one of the examples of irregular verb from the text. - Put it on WB and ask Ss to make it negative. (Use different colors to highlight important parts.) - Ask Ss to repeat the structure. - Ask Ss to make yes/no and Wh questions from the model sentence on WB. - Ask Ss to repeat all the models on WB for a couple of times to make sure they're clear on the structure.
- Divide the class into two groups of A and B. - Ask group A to read the article about the first person's ( Maria Julia) for two minutes. - Ask group B to read the article about the second person's (Mehmet) for two minutes as well. - Ask Ss to put the article aside. - Give the question HO. - Ask Ss to stand up and pair an A with a B. - Invite them to ask each other questions. - Monitor Ss and write down any mistakes. - As a O/C FB, write the mistakes on the board, elicit the correct answers and ask them to repeat.
