  • To provide review and practice of verb-noun collocations in the context of achievements

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about collocations in the context of achievements
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of achievements

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Provide two questions for students to answer in pairs Provide OCFB Write answers on screen

Exposure (3-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Instructions: Read the text Tell your partner what you think the main idea is Which one you agree with more Conduct OCFB

Highlighting (4-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Instructions: read the text again and look for words that you commonly see together (specifically verbs and nouns) Demo first Highlight collocations Conduct OCFB

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Students complete google form Instructions: match the word to the correct sentences Demo first one In pairs check answers Conduct OCFB - Ask students if these word combinations sound familiar to them What do all of these words have in common? (verb) (noun) Have students read sentences for pronunciation

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Instructions: google forms write at least 3 sentences using collocations T demos first one SS work individually BoR to compare answers OCFB

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Instructions: Discuss your favorite achievements that have been made. (demos using TL) BoR OCFB + DEC
