Description

In this lesson students will be able to analyize the different modes of transportation through multiple hands- on activites involving social, physical and emotional skills. The integration of the lessons takes places through diferent stages while maintaing a high- interest in the topic.

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, students hosuld be able to idenetify and categorize differenet modes of transportation. Student should also be able to practice speaking and listening skills in the context of transporation.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide writing a sentecne follwoing the wrtting rubric placed in fron of them. In additon to intgretating different math concepts like couting and sorting

Procedure

Ice-Breaker Game (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students to the teacher and test previous knowledge

Teacher will start the I Spy game using multiple real cars, helocopters and motrocylces to elicit previous knowlegde, students will answer if they know. - I Spy a yellow moving object that has two wheels and goes fast. - I Spy a white object that moves in up/down direction and has blades. - I Spy a blue object that moves forward and backwards.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a poster

Using the proejcetor, Teacher will use a poster including pictures of different modes of transportation, - Teacher asks students - What is the meaning of transportation ? Is this word used only to move goods or people ? only people ? both ? - Do all of these objects move in the same place ? - Do all of these objects move in the same direction ?

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Teacher will elaborate on the different types of transportation What is the meaning of Land Transportation ? - Teacher asks student to stand up and stomp feet, Teacher ask student if they could feel the ground. Collerate between land and ground. What is the meaning of Air Transportation ? - Teacher asks students who flies the aeroplane ? What is ther meaning of Water Transportation ? - Does a boat move on the round or in water ?

Clarification (4-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language (Landing- Takeoff- Driver- Pilot- Captain)

- Elicit on the meaning of the words: Destination Take - off/ Landing Driver Pilot Captain - Teacher will mime the movement using some getsures and movements interactively with the students. Ask ss CCQ's

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In groups on three different tables, teacher hands out 3 types of sheets to different levles in the classtoom, teacher will ask for ICQ's High- acheivers will be given a transport matching Worksheet to join each word to the matching picture. Medium - acheivers wil be given a sheet to color the circle that matches the begining sound of the mode of transport. Low -acheivers will be given a transport I spy transport sheet, where students count the number of each type of transport and write the numeral in the box next to it. Teacher's observation then, feedback

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

First, teacher asks students to be divided into large groups, - Teacher will hand out a pre-cut sorting activity. - Students will place small cards on the mat according to the mode of transport whether: water, air or land. Second, - High -achevers: Will be asked to write a sentence using a wrting rubric using one mode of transportation, followed by solving an interactive game using the mouse to match the correct word after listening to the proper pronouciation with the correct picture. - Meduim- acheivers will be asked to write the words: Cars- Truck using playdough. - Low Acheivers: will be asked to make a car or a boat using playdough.

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher prepares two sand sensory boxes on three tables: Box (1) contains sand and the pre-cut blank folder papers, Box (2) contains pre-cut transportation words with pictures. Students will asked to dig into two sand sensory box and do the following: High-acheivers: Table (1) find the blank pre-cut sheet and write the name of mode of transportation in the blank white area while guessing the proper spelling of the words in box (1) Medium- acheivers: Table (2) in pairs, students will dig for the pre-cut blank paper with the picture while peer will dig for pre-cut paper with picture and the wiritten word. Pairs will try to match each mode of transportation, then peer correction. Low -Acheivers: Table (3) In pairs, students will dig for a picture, then mention the name and type of the transport to each other in turns. Teacher observes, then overall feed back, then gives students the Exit ticket on the modes of transportation.
