1. Pair work: T displays some disconnected parts of an email (A and B) and asks students to read quickly and arrange the texts in the right order. Instructions "Locate each part of the email in the right order". 2. Pair work: T asks Ss to locate the label with the name of each part of the email next to the relevant section. Instructions: "Match the names of the parts with each section." CCQs: How many parts are in this email? (4) Is the first part of the email similar to say goodbye? No Is it similar to say 'hello'? Yes. In the email A, did the worked accepted the invitation? No. In the email B, did the worker accepted the invitation? Yes. 3. T conducts OCFB after pair work.
1. T asks Ss to work in pairs and identify the phrases used to A) Accept an invitation and B) Refuse an invitation in both samples. 2. Once they have highlighted the phrases, Ss will locate each one of these in the right column (column A: Accepting / Column B: Refusing) 3. T conducts OCFB after pair work.
Ss will now write an email accepting/refusing an invitation from the boss using the template in Handout A. Instructions: "Now you will be invited by our boss to her birthday party... will you go? Write an email and let her know!"
T asks Ss to peer their classmates work once everyone has finished. They will read their colleagues text and mark in the checklist (Handout B) the requirements that have been included. T asks Ss to share with their colleague the number of points they got in their work. T asks Ss to share one thing they have learned from this exercise.
T collects some examples from the texts written by the students and asks the group to correct if necessary.
