TP 4 - TBF
Intermediate level
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide review of comparatives and superlatives in the context of tech solutions.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To allow students add new vocabulary related to technology and low-tech solutions.
Procedure (106-150 minutes)
T shows the pictures in Slide 1 and asks Ss if they remember what the things shown in each picture are. After this, Ss will try to link some words taken from the text to the corresponding image. Instructions: "Link the words or phrases to the image you think they belong."
T asks students to read fairly quickly the text and extract some examples where comparisons are made between new and low tech solutions in the text. Ss can write or mention which examples they can find. A list will be made in Slide 3. Instructions: "What other examples you can find in the text?" T conducts OCFB after group work.
Meaning: T asks Ss to locate a set of six sentences in the right column (comparative: O-o vs. superlative: O-o-o-o) in pairs (each pair has one copy of the file to work together) T conducts OCFB after pair work (Answers displayed in Slide 4) Instructions: "Locate each sentence in the column O-o or O-o-o-o. Use the examples as a reference." Form: T asks Ss to complete quiz (superlatives vs. comparatives) in Google Forms (individually) Link: https://forms.gle/AZpB9nCcRAFZ54tMA. T conducts OCFB after quiz. Instructions: "Answer the questions in the questionnaire. There is only one correct option for each." Pronunciation: Drilling using superlatives/comparatives in context (full sentences) (Examples shown in Slide 5 and 6)
SS work individually on Ex. 5.1 A (taken from p. 137). Ss. share and check their answers with a partner. T conducts OCFB after pair checking (Answers displayed in Slide 8) Instructions: "Answer the exercise in the Slide 2 from your Handout. Use the adjectives in brackets." / "Check your answers with your partner."
T asks Ss to create in pairs some sentences using comparatives and superlatives to describe the benefits of an invention or tech solution. They will support their work with the images from Slide 9. Instructions: "Write some sentences about the benefits of the solutions you see in your handout. Use the superlative or comparative form." T asks some pairs to share their answers in OCFB.
T writes some samples taken from learners’ freer practice (full sentences) in slide 10 and sets a task for learners to identify the correct and incorrect sentences and correct the latter ones using TPR (Total Physical response). Instructions: "Clap if the sentence is incorrect / Remain in silence if sentence is correct." T conducts OCFB (T ticks the right example using the check mark available in slide 9)
