Procedure (36-48 minutes)
To set the task students will be divided into the groups receiving the words “ so that, in order to, in case and otherwise “ on cut on papers. While the previous reading is projected on the board they have to find these words in the text, run to the board and underline them in the text . Winner is the quickest group.
This stage is focused on ex 1, student book. In this part Students are going to look at the previous reading passage sentences projected on the board and soon after receive a worksheet and they will be asked to do it in pairs. They need to complete 8 blanks with the words mentioned in the Lead-in part. I will ask students to put the correct answer on the board.
In this part if students have difficulties understanding the words meaning, form and pronunciation, I am planning to explain the words with some examples on the board, using PPT. For each example I am planning to ask CCQS. For example: They sit near an open door so that they can get out quickly. In order to overcome their phobia, they must visit a psychologist. They never take a lift in case it breaks down. Parents need to be careful, otherwise their children could develop phobia. Is there any reason for them sitting near the door? Yes Is it like a solution for them to sit near the door? Yes Will the lift break down? Maybe Are they preparing for the emergency situation? Yes Do parents need to be careful? What if they are not careful enough? Form So that + subject + modal + main verb In order to + main verb So that, otherwise, in case + a clause They sit near an open door so that they can get out quickly. /sodat/ In order to overcome their phobia, they must visit a psychologist.
After clarification, I am planning to do ex 2, Straight forward, student book, as a controlled practice. I will regroup students to 3 each, standing up going around the class and start reading and answering ex 2. As WCFB one student will be asked to come to the board and write the answers on the board.
As a freer practice I am going to put students in pairs. Each pair will receive a set of pictures and they need to explain the situation in the picture and ask their partner about why they did that strange thing. The other student need to come up with a funny or convincing explanation using then linking words. I will do one example as a demonstration. e.g. Me: Mujgan, I saw you yesterday in shopping mall will lots of Teady bears .... mujgan: I bought them so that I can play with them and I don't feel lonely anymore. I will elicit for the interesting conversation.
