Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about recycling.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of recycling.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

1- ask Ss to do a quiz about the environment. " Do the quiz and find out if you save our planet or not? Work individually" 2- Ss work in pairs. " share your ideas with your partner." 3- open class discussion " do you think your partner is a great saver of the environment? How?"

Preparation task ( listening for gist - listening for sepcief information ) (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening.

1- ask Ss to listen to audio and find the main idea. " you will listen to the audio and find the main idea." 2- elicit the main idea from Ss. 3- Ss will listen again for specific information. " you listen again and guess the answers to these questions." ICQs: will answer during or after the listening? during." 4- Ss check their answers with their partner. " check your answers with your partner." 5- contribute the key answer to Ss. " here the key answer to assure your answers."

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive task.

1- show Ss some pictures about Recycling. - Recycle Elicitations: yesterday, I bought food from McDonald's. I liked this bottle, so I washed it and put my pens into the bottle. I love this idea so much. As a result, every time I buy something like that, I use it for useful things. - Did I reuse the bottle in a good way? - Did I reduce my waste in the basket? Yes, because I turned the waste materials into something good, I can use. We call this process " recycling ": when we reuse something in a good way. - Rubbish Elicitations: if I want to put unneeded things for example paper, bottle, anything in the basket, we call these things? Rubbish. Definition: Rubbish is everything that you throw away or no longer have a use for. - Dustbin Elicitations: what do you see here in this picture? What this thing is used for? Definition: a large container used for putting rubbish in, usually kept outside the house.

Speaking Task and Feedback (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills.

1- Ss speak with each other about recycling. " work with your partner and discuss recycling questions." 2- monitor Ss and take notes. 3- open class discussion and ask every group about their thoughts. " could you tell me, - Do you practice Recycling? What things do you recycle? Did you recycle when you were a kid? How has recycling changed your life?" 4- give Ss feedback about their language.
