Description

In this lesson, students continue to work on the topic of corporate volunteer projects through several speaking and listening exercises.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To enable students to practice speaking for fluency in the context of corporate volunteer projects.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To enable students to extend their lexical range in the context of corporate volunteer projects.
  • To enable students to practice listening for gist and detail in the context of corporate volunteer projects.

Procedure

Welcome (5-10 minutes) • To welcome students to class and to troubleshoot any problems.

T welcomes Ss to class. T asks how Ss are, if they have any questions or concerns about the course materials, platforms, etc. T and Ss chat informally as all Ss arrive to Teams platform.

Review (5-10 minutes) • To review what we covered in last class and to begin setting the context for today's lesson

T gets Ss attention. T nominates S: “what did we work on in last Saturday’s class?” - We continued with the speaking test (Luis still needs to do his!) - We looked at writing emails for bookings and practiced writing - We began our unit on ‘Projects,’ looking at corporate volunteer projects - We read a short article about corporate volunteer projects at Timberland and Credit Suisse T nominates S: “did we have any work suggested for homework?” [yes, Online Unit 2 exercises & Progress Test]

Productive Task - Speaking Test #1 (continued) (5-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T gets Ss attention. T asks for a volunteer to play Student B (Angelica, Vicky, Silvia or Raquel) in order that Luis can play Studnt A to be assessed. Ss go through role play while T takes notes and gives brief feedback.

Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T gets Ss attention. T asks Ss to watch “What most people get wrong about volunteering through work | Aaron Hurst” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19BHaW0Cpjg T asks Ss what recommendations given by Aaron Hurst re: volunteering they heard in the video
