To provide reading for gist practice of multi-word verbs in the context of an African-American writer and actress Maya Angelou.
Procedure (33-45 minutes)
Revise the previous topic by asking Ss to share their own six word story. T write it down on the slide and provide feedback. Elicit the TL by praising Ss with multi-word verbs e.g. "keep it up", "try out" the next activity.
T show 4 sentences on the screen, Ss will be working individually to look for the multi-word verbs and send the answers to the T privately in the group chat. Ask Ss to further explain the meaning of the multi-word verbs by giving some examples. T then review and discuss the answer with the class.
T explain the TL and show the phonemic symbol to drill the pronunciation, especially the liaison. Next, T send the link of the matching task and ask Ss to work in pairs and match the correct multi-word verbs with the meaning.
T shows an article about Maya Angelou on the screen and ask Ss to practice reading for gist. Then, T will send a link to Ss and ask them to answer the questions individually. Ss will be writing the correct multi-word verbs from the article which match the definition in the activity. In addition, Ss will have to change the form of the multi-word verbs from the article into infinitive e.g. "grew up" - "grow up" (infinitive).
