Subsidiary Aims

  • Ss will develop the skill of fluency in speaking in the context of spying.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T starts the lesson with a fun activity related to to the topic of spying . How to do the activity: One student chooses an object (The WC should be able to see it). Their opening statement is: I spy with my little eye.... something green for example. The spy can say anything that describes the chosen object (eg. it's location, I spy with my little eye something that is ON the table). Other player try to guess what it is, The "spy" can only say "yes" or "no" to student guesses. The spy provides as many clues as they can. Whoever guesses correctly becomes the spy.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through an open discussion.

T sticks some pictures on the WB that will help in the open discussion with the students.T will ask Ss those questions about all the pictures " What can you see in the picture? Is it a positive or negative thing? Are you for or against? Is it good or bad? What is your point of view about this?" Then T writes on the WB the answers for the questions beside each picture.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T will highlight specific words on the WB that will draw the Ss' attention to the TL .

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: T will draw a table with empty boxes trying to elicit from the Ss the meaning of the words that we will use to talk about the advantages and disadvatages. Form: T will discuss those words and how we use them in the correct formula to talk about the advantages and disadvatages of something. Pronunciation: Then T moves to talk about the pronunciation and the position of the stress on the words of the target language.T follows those steps : modelling , highlighting , and drilling.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will be given (Handout 1) to answer the questions in it individually first. Then Ss will check the answers with their partners. The early finishers will write the answers on the WB

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T will distribute among the Ss handout 2 .Ss will work on it trying to write the answers for the questions individually first .Then they work in pairs to check their answers together . At the end the feedback will be given to the whole class.

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T divides Ss into two groups ,A and B.Group A will represent the the school children who are against the introduction of CCTV . Group B represent the school administration who support the introduction of CCTV. T asks the Ss to read the information about the topic in their groups and then Ss discuss five reasons for or against the introduction of the cameras in four minutes. At the end of the four minutes , each group will choose a representative to present their arguments to the WC. T gives the feedback to the WC on the accuracy in using the TL.
