Description

In this lesson, students will practice compound adjectives in the context of describing character by listening to audio, doing text work, and discussing compound adjectives that apply to them. The lesson starts with a discussion about dress code in the work place, which will frame the audio well. Then the students will review a written task before listening to an audio clip that has compound adjectives riddles throughout. Students will review their answers with each other and then in OCFB. Students will then cover MFP with three compound adjectives by elicitation. They will piece together the words, match their meaning, discuss pronunciation, and then match the word to a sentence. For the controlled practice students will complete a Google form that has them read three conversations and then select the compound adjectives that apply to each. They will then discuss their answers with a partner and follow up with OCFB. For the Freer practice sections students will be paired in breakout room discussions that poses questions about themselves within the context of compound adjectives used in the lesson, followed up with OCFB. At the end of this task I will conduct Delated Error Correction and address and mistakes I noticed throughout the lesson

SS will be given a Google form to complete individually. (5 min) The Google form with ask SS to read three separate conversations and match them with the correct compound adjectives. They will ahve the following choices for each section. 1)self-assured 2)self-conscious 3)laid-back 4)big-headed 5)narrow-minded 6)absent-minded 7)self-centered 8)level-headed 9)strong-willed Conversation #1 Anna: Joanne's certainly very confident! She's only been here a few weeks, but you wouldn't believe it! Andy: Mmm, confident, certainly. Some might say she thinks she's more important than she really is. Anna: True, and she has a very clear idea of exactly what she wants to achieve, which is good as long as she's prepared to listen to other people too. Conversation #2 Andy: And what about Steve? Anna: Well, he's calm and sensible when he's making decisions. Andy: Is he? Interesting. But an I right in thinking he's more interested in himself than in other people? Anna: Yes, that's fair enough. And he's not as open to new ideas as he could be, which would be a bit of a problem, working with so many people. Conversation #3 Andy: I really like Emma, myself. She's a very relaxed kind of person. Anna: That's true. Except giving presentations in front of people -- then she does get a bit embarrassed. Andy: Yes, I'd noticed that. And she tends to forget things, too. She doesn't concentrate that well. Anna: So who is it to be then? Joanne, Steve, or Emma? SS will discuss their answers in private chat with a partner. (3 min) SS will have OCFB. (3 min)

Freer Practice (9-12 minutes) • To provide SS an open space to use the target language fluently.

SS will be given three talking points to discuss with a partner in private breakout rooms. (8 minutes) 1)Discuss an instance when you were level-headed at work. 2)Discuss an instance when a friend was self-centered. 3)Discuss an instance when you were big-headed with your family. SS will conduct OCFB

Delayed Error correction (1-3 minutes) • To correct any mistakes noticed during the lesson

TT will provide corrections depending on any incorrect usage or terminology noticed throughout the lesson.
