Description

In this lesson, students learn and practice how to use relative clauses. There will be both controlled and freer practice as well as a thorough explanation of the topic.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice of relative clauses in the context of Internet of things

Subsidiary Aims

  • To apply critical thinking and speaking for fluency and writing from the target language

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will discuss what IoT means and a picture will be provided to relate to the meaning.

Text Work - Reading fo Gist (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher will provide a reading "Web connected toothbrush joins the Internet of Things". Students will skimm the text and will tell what is the text mainly about choosing one of the three options provided from the teacher.

MFPA (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Guided discovery. Teacher will provide the reading that will be available at all timesm and students will discuss about the questions regarding to meaning and form. Connected speech will be explained by teacher.

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Teacher will provide four sentences to be filled out by the correct relative pronoum and categorize each sentence by define or non-define relative clause.

Freer Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will talk with their peers about the three following questions: - A person who makes you happy. - A gadget which is essential in your life. - A celebrity whose children are famous.

DEC (3-5 minutes) • To provide delayed error correction

Teacher will share screen via Zoom Students will be able to see some sentences Teacher has observed from the previous stage. Teacher will ask students where they think the mistakes are and provide the appropriate correction to the mistakes. Teacher says goodbye and thanks them for all their hard work
