The lesson will help Ss to use Verb + Infinitive, Verb+ Infinitive with to, Verb +Verb+ing structures correctly by a variety of activities.

Main Aims

  • To raise awareness for the stuructures Verb + Infinitive, Verb + Infinitve with to, Verb +Verb+-ing

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide speaking activity for accuracy in the context of' Find Someone Who' questionnaire.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets Ss and asks them "how are you?" T talks about the reading text 'Culture Shock' and asks Ss whether they liked the reading text or not. T asks Ss whether they remember some of the things they should and they should not do in the countries in the text - hoping to elicit some TL.

Exposure & Highlighting (10-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T provides the model sentences from the reading text for the TL on the board and explains the structures and categorizes them. T asks the Ss to work on the reading text as pairs (Culture Shock) and underline the structures that are similar to the ones on the board. T have the answers on the board as hidden (slips of paper). T asks the Ss to stand up holidng their reading text take a piece of paper from the WB which has the verb on it and stick it under the correct category (Verb + Verb 1, Verb + to+Verb1 etc) on the board. While doing the task students can also check the reading text. T checks the answers on the board and gives FB.

Controlled Practice (5-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T asks Ss to do information gap acitivity on page 65 as pairs. Checks the answers and gives FB as whole class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-15 minutes) • To concept and form check further

T gives out Find Someone Who HO and asks Ss to fill the questionnaire. T monitors and takes notes. T checks the answers as open pairs. If there is time, T writes the errors on the board and gives FB.
