Description

In this lesson, students will learn about causative get/have through guided discovery based on a reading text about a picnic. The lesson starts with a discussion about things that a person does for him/herself and the things that are done for her/him. This is followed by reading a text about preparing for a picnic. Finally, there is some controlled practice through sentence reformulation and free practice via a writing activity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T sends a link to a google slides presentation where ss are asked to answer two sets of questions. The first set is about things that the speaker does for him/herself. The other set is about things that are done to the speaker by someone else. T nominates ss to answer the questions. T emphasizes the difference between the two kinds of actions.

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

T sends a link to a google slides presentation where ss are asked to read a text about preparing for a picnic. They are asked to highlight the actions that were made by the speaker herself. They are requested to find out the things that were made for the speaker by other people.

Language Analysis (10-15 minutes) • To know the FMAP of the TL

T sends a link to a google slides presentation where ss get to elicit the meaning of the causative get/have by comparing two sets of sentences. They also get to know the different usage of each verb. T presents the sentences where get/have are used. T elicits the form from the ss. T pronounces the sentences. T elicits the stressed words from the ss. T does some drilling and ss repeat.

Controlled practice (3-5 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

T sends a link to a google slides presentation where ss are asked to rewrite a few sentences using causative get/have. T sends ss to BORs where they work in pairs. Ss discuss their answers in group. T conducts OCFB. T gives a model answer

Free Practice (3-5 minutes) • To practice the TL.

T sends a link to a google jamboard where ss are requested to make their own sentences using causative get/have

DEC (3-5 minutes) • To provide correction to students' mistakes

T writes some of the mistakes done by ss. T elicit the correction and the best use of the language from ss.
