Description

In this lesson, students will learn to introduce and practice compound adjectives and nouns.

Materials

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have a better understanding of compound adjectives and nouns.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of compound adjectives and nouns in the context of the power of memes.
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of compound adjectives and nouns.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T will introduce Ss to the topic by showing them a meme and asking the following questions: "Have you seen this meme?" Does it get your attention? What makes it stand out? -Ss will ask students if they have ever seen an "eye-catching" meme? The T will then place the students in BRs and have students share their responses. - 2 minutes -Once students have discussed their responses, T will tell the students we will be learning about compound adjectives and nouns while completing activities within the context of memes.

Exposure (Text work) (6-9 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-T will share the Google form with Ss. -Ss will first individually read the text and answer the Google Form questions. - 5 minutes -T will place Ss into BORs to review answers with each other. - 2 minutes -Ss will meet with T to meet for OCFB and review their responses. - 1 to 2 mintues -Google Form fill in the blank based on Navigate p. 51, vocabulary activity 4.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language.

-Ss will explore the MFP of the TL via Jamboard. -T will share the Jamboard with the Ss. - Ss will discover the MFP by working through the Jamboard. - 5 minutes - Ss will work in BORs and review their responses with a partner. - 2 minutes -OCFB: T will elicit a response from Ss and Ss will share responses. - 3 minutes

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-The learning activity will be based on Navigate workbook: 5.3 Vocabulary Development (Compound adjectives and nouns) - Activity 1 (p. 36) -Ss will receive a Google Form with the questions and will have 5 minutes to answer the questions individually. -Next, Ss will go into BORs to discuss their answers with classmates for 2 minutes. -T will then conduct OCFB and have the students share their responses and give students the correct responses - 3 minutes

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-T will send Ss Jamboard questionnaire. -Ss will meet in breakout rooms and practice using TL with the questionnaire. Each student in the group will practice asking each question. Other students will answer the question. Then the other students will practice asking the questions and vice versa. - (5 minutes) -T meets with the whole group of Ss and conducts feedback on TL. - (Up to 3 minutes) -Delayed Error Correction (DEC) - (Up to 2 minutes)
