Description

In this lesson, Ss will get to develop their writing production and reading skills, making an informal email, starting with an activity of chosing a country of Africa and a relative, they will have to write this e-mail as a suggestion for traveling or telling about the trip,at the end thay have to give feedback each other, having a checklist as a guide.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of writing using an email template

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist, detailed and scan reading practice using a text about of a brief informal e-mail in the context of a ficticious trip to a conuntry making an invitation or telling about the trip to a relative

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will esposure the situation of being abroard showing a map of Africa, T asks Ss if they would like to visit Africa and why ,then Ss choose an African country to travel and who they'd like to invite, saving this options for the productive task.

Text analyisis (8-10 minutes) • To identify the sections and appropriacy of an email

T will share a brief informal mail about a trip to the Victoria Falls (border of Zambia and Zimbabue), on which Ss have to identify the differents sections and to identify if the language used is formal or informal, then T will share a checklist about the sections and the language used, as a suggestion

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T lets the students to write their own sample of an e-mail, based on the lead-in task, Ss have to write the e-mail as if they where on the chosen country and either inviting or telling about their trip to their chosen relative, Ss will have a maximum of ten minutes for the task, trying to use the parts taught in the text analysis and the proper language.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Using the checklist given in the text analysis task, Ss will watch their peers' e-mails and give each other feedback on how they made the e-mail on BOR, at the end T can give a general feedback
