Description

In this lesson, the students learn the techniques of gist and detailed listening of the text, completing the tasks related to it and fluent speaking on the topic of favourite possessions. The lesson starts with the definition of the word "possession" and the discussion about students' favourite things to build the rapport with them. This is followed by gist listening of the text and the matching task. The second task is detailed listening of the text and filling the gaps. Finally there is a discussion of the topic related to the text via a speaking activity and the recap.

Procedure

Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students in the class

To show the students the definition of the word "possession", to explain the meaning, form and pronunciation of this word. To show the pictures of some things that can be favourite ones for some people and to ask the students to share their opinion with the peers and the teacher related to the topic of the class " Favourite possessions"

Pre-listening vocabulary (5-5 minutes) • to be aware of words

To explain four phrases from the four statements that the students will listen to.

Pre-Listening (5-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text, to explain the first task, to listen to it and to do the first task

To ask the students to listen to the text and to share the sound of my computer. To ask the students to complete the first task

While Listening 1 (5-5 minutes) • To complete the first task and to check it in group

After gist listening of the text and completing the matching task, to discuss the answers altogether.

While Listening 2 (10-10 minutes) • To listen to the text again for detail and to complete more challenging detailed, deduction and inference task

To listen to the text again and to complete the second task filling the necessary words in the gaps. Then in breakout rooms to discuss the answers with the partner(s). After completing and checking the task to nominate several students to tell the answers in group.

Post-Listening (10-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

To ask the students to use the vocabulary used in the text and to tell their peers about the things they To play a game with the students: To ask them to write one or two sentences to describe their favourite object saying why you like it but don't write its name. In two minutes to take turns to describe their object and try to guess the other objects.

Recap (5-5 minutes) • To repeat the main points of the class's explanations

To remember what was explained during the class and to explain the mistakes that were made by the students
