Description

In this lesson, students practice their speaking skills in the context of movies. Students will start with a lead-in that will set context followed by MFP where the students will learn some adjectives relating to liking and disliking a movie. This will be followed by two speaking sessions where students can practice their accuracy and fluency. The lesson will end of with an OCFB and DEC.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Prior to sharing the lead-in, T. will build rapport with Ss & T. will share with Ss the aim of the lesson. (1 min) T. will share on Zoom a Google Slide and ask students to speak in breakout rooms regarding the question. The question is: How many favorite movies do you have? How many times have you watched your favorite movies? (4 min PW)

Useful Language (7-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T. will share the Google Slide screen on Zoom. T. will have some words on screen T. will ask students to put it on the like side of the screen or dislike side of the screen. T. will ask S. if they have other words in mind. T. will share meaning, form (adjectives), and pronunciation (through drilling) with the students. (7 min)

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T. will ask Ss. to go into breakout rooms and talk about one movie they like. Ss. have to tell their classmates why they like the movie. (6 min PW). T. will monitor breakout rooms. S. will come out of breakout rooms and Tt. will engage students with some OCFB by asking Ss. what their classmates shared with them. (3min) T. T. will ask Ss. to go into breakout rooms again and talk about one movie they dislike. Ss. will have to tell their classmates why they dislike the movie. (6 min PW). T. will monitor breakout rooms. S. will come out of breakout rooms and Tt. will engage students with some OCFB by asking Ss. what their classmates shared with them. (3 min)

Feedback and Error Correction (4-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T. will engage the class in DEC through Google Slides that was picked up from the TL during monitoring ( 4 min)
