To provide specific information listening practice using a text about education in the context of agreeing/disagreeing on education fees in a TV programme
Procedure (10-45 minutes)
T elicits the topic by asking a general question to the WC. - Are there any Ss in this class? T asks a student to answer specific questions. - Do you have to pay for your education? - Do you think Ss should pay ? why/ why not? Ss get into groups and discuss their opinions on this topic. WCFB: Ss share their answers with the rest of the class
For the first part of the listening activity T asks Ss to look at the picture on their handout sheet and asks questions related to it - What type of TV programme is this? - Do you think Jackie Nash is a student or a politician? T will play audio record of the beginning of the TV programme and Ss answer the questions on their handout sheet. Ss will compare their answers with their peers and then overall correction with T. For the second part of the listening activity : - T plays the audio recording again and Ss decide whether or not the statements given are true or false. - Ss compare their answers in pairs -T plays the recording once more for Ss to verify their answers then correct it with the rest of the class.
T draws a chart on the board and asks questions to SS to check their understanding of the 3 headings . -agreeing -disagreeing -asking for opinions T asks SS -what is the best Turkish football team? etc... Ss answer and T asks what the other students opinions are.
T asks students to look at exercice 3 on their handout sheet Ss work in pairs to match sentences 1-12 according to their functions by writing letters for each a- agreeing b-disagreeing c-asking for opinion These sentences will be given to the students on a paper to stick on the board on a chart with 3 columns (agreeing-disagreeing- asking for opinion). Ss check their answers with the rest of the class (whether or not thet agree with their classmates answers)
T gives Ss handout with 6 sentences and asks them to discuss and share their opinions in groups. T monitores and takes notes.
T asks Ss individually to share their opinions of the statement they've discussed about in their groups.
