Procedure (38-50 minutes)
T gives ss HO1 and has students fold paper. T has students walk around the room, identify pictures and write their names on the HO. Time is set at 2 minutes. T elicits answers from students and writes words on board. T asks ss what the topic of the lesson is today: TECHNOLOGY/COMPUTERS
Elicit meaning, form (all nouns) and stress from students. Then drill pronunciation. (describe words and have ss tell you what they are) a prInter a mouse (no stress) a mOnitor a scAnner a kEyboard a screen (no stress) spEakers a mEmory stick CCQs: Which of these items do use use at school? at work? at home? What do you use it for?
E.C.D.W. 1. after you read your emails and you don't want to keep them anymore/what do you do? *delEte (v) 2.a document or picture that you send with an email. *an attAchment (n) 3. a small picture on the computer screen that you click on/print button *an Icon (n) *What are some different kinds of icons you see on a computer? recycle, copy, print 4. to copy computer programs, information, music to the computer's memory, a lot of time from the internet. *downlOad (ant: Upload) (v) *What was the last thing you downloaded? music, movie, software, game, pictures, etc.. 5. an extra copy of computer information *bAck-up copy (n) *do you back-up your files? Find your partner gap fill activity. T instructs ss that half will get a sentence/other half gets an answer. Ss must mingle to find their partner and stand together once they think they are correct. ICQs: **How many partners will you have? 1 **What do you do after you find your partner? stand together Ss check each other and then check answer key. Ss are instructed to sit with their new partner and unfold their HO. Ss will underline the words that are related to computers and then draw a word web on the board (with the noun in the center). ICQs. **What do you underline? computer words **What word goes in the middle of your word web? noun **Where do you put draw it? whiteboard OCFB-look at word webs and discuss collocations.
What is computer literacy? Elicit how much you know about computers and other related technology. Ss flip HO and complete quiz. (2 minutes) T instruct ss to tally their scores based on the formula. (1 minute) Group one: 9-10 pts Group two: 5-8 pts. Group three: 0-4 pts. Students get into small groups based on their score and T gives them their result description (if group is too large, they will be separated into smaller groups) Ss READ their results, DISCUSS with their group if they agree/disagree with it, and then talk about WHY. (5 minutes) T nominates ss to share answers.
T puts students into 3 groups. Each group gets a topic to discuss. Groups must all write answers and choose a speaker to share answers. Decide if you agree/disagree with: 1. Computer games are bad for children 2. The internet makes people less sociable 3. People depend on computers too much. On the front/bottom of HO1, write 2-3 reasons you agree or disagree with your topic. (5 mins) ICQs: **Is everyone writing answers on their paper? Yes **How many reasons do you need to write? 2-3 **Will you choose one speaker for your group? Yes OC-discussion (5 minutes)
