Main Aims

  • To improve some skills in while learning
  • To provide gist, specific information and details

Subsidiary Aims

  • To help students with their skimming and scanning skills

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

First of all,I'd share some personal experience about my career choices. Then I'd assign my students to do a task. After 3 minutes I'll ask them to share their answers in pairs. Then we will have some different career choices that they made. Now,we put the same career choices together to make groups in class.

Pre-Listening (6-9 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening and make it accessible

Here I'd write down some questions on the board and tell my students to try to answer them before listening to the audio. While asking these questions,I'll show them some pictures related to the listening part to make some ease. These are the questions: How many people are talking to each other in this pic? What are they talking about? Which one is having second thoughts? They will answer to these questions individually and then I'll make pairs and tell them to share their answers with each other.

While-Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Now,I'd assign my students to do a task which contains main info about the listening. It's a matching task and it has 2 columns.Column A is a career choice and column B is how Charlotte feels about them.I'll play the audio and they'll answer. Then, they must work in their groups to check their answers. Then,I'll write down the answers on the board.

While-Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

In this stage,I'd play the audio one more time.First,I'll pass the handouts to my students.I'll give instructions about the task. They have to complete sentences that they hear.I'll play the audio now and wait for them to finish. Then,I'll ask them to work in their groups and check their answers. At last,I'll write down the answers on the board.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the listening and expand on what they've learned

I'd want my students to personalize this listening.I'd make pairs that contain one doctor and one patient.I'd give them 5 minutes to make their own story about career choice.
