Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a recording about important things in life
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide fluency speaking practice in a pair conversation in the context of life circles
Procedure (32-44 minutes)
I will show some pictures to the students ans ask what they see in the pictures. I will try to elicit 'sentimental value' from them. I will ask CCQs like: Why do the people keep these photos? Do the people keep them because they are expensive? etc. I will ask them if they keep old photos and if so, why.
I will tell the students that they are going to listen ten people talking about important names, dates and places in their lives. Before listening, I will give them a list about each person. I will give them some time to read the list. Then, I will tell them that they need to write what each item is. I will do a demo by playing the recording and doing the first example with them. Afterwards, I will play the rest of the recording. After the students have finished listening to it, I will have them check their answers in pairs and then we will check as a class.
I'll put the students into small groups. I will give them a handout of life circles. I will tell them to look at it and I will ask them to find which life circle each person is speaking about. They will match each item to a circle. After that, they will listen to the recording again and check their answers.
I will tell the students that they will listen to the audio for the last time to note more information from each person. I will ask them to write what else we learn about them. I will explain that they should write short notes, not sentences. I will pause after each speaker if necessary. I will do a demo with the first one for the students. After they have finished listening, they will check their answers in pairs and we will have a WC FB.
I will ask the students to complete the same life circles with information from their own life. I will tell them to write notes, not full sentences. After each has completed the life circles, I will get them to explain their life circles to each other in pairs. Then we will have a WC FB.
