Description

Students will learn how to use superlatives to talk about people in their lives

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide review of superlatives in the context of talking about one's favorite person

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a interview in the context of talking about their favorite person

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will look at a series of extreme pictures ( the tallest and shortest man), the most beautiful flower, etc.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T will tell students that they are going to listen to some people talking about their favorite person. T will play the recording. T will ask Ss what do they think the boy likes the girl? T will ask them about the adjectives they heard.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will student through a MFPA. First, the T will show them some sentences on the PowerPoint and ask them to note the differences in them. T will lead Ss through a chart of superlatives to clarify meaning and form depending on the number of syllables. Exception will be included.

Controlled Practice - Superlative (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T will give Ss time to do a controlled practice worksheet of superlatives using Google Docs. T will put Ss into breakout rooms in pairs. The will do the exercise individually and check answers in pairs before submitting. T will conduct OCFB

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Using prompt questions on the PowerPoint in groups, Ss will ask each other about a favorite person in their life. Ss will use adjectives supplied to talk about this person in the superlative. Then the students will report back to the class. Teacher will conduct a DEC.
