T. shows an image of a couple having an argument about things they don't need and asks two students to read the dialogues. "Is this situation familiar to you?" T. shows a different picture of a house loaded with stuff and a woman who seems happy and unbothered by the situation. "Perhaps we don't know such an extreme situation as the one in the picture, but let's think about this for a second...why do we become so attached to things?" Ss. go into breakout rooms and discuss with a peer. Ss. come back and share thoughts with the class.
-Ss. listen to an audio while reading the script, paying attention to highlighted words. -T. asks for general impressions, replays the audio if necessary and then asks the students what do the words have in common. -T. shows to columns of words that contain the same suffixes and asks the students to find the two similarities (word class and suffix) -Ss. go into breakout rooms to work in pairs and find the two differences. -Ss. come back. T. conducts OCFB and presents the concept of suffixes.
-T. shows a slide with information and examples about the concept of suffixes and conducts CQ for clarification. -Ss. go to a Jamboard in pairs and fulfill two quick tasks: (turning verbs into nouns or adjective with a given suffix and brainstorming words they know that contain those suffixes) -Ss. come back to the main room and we discuss the answers. -T. conducts CQs again for the students to come up with the meaning and form of the suffixes and T. provides a model for the pronunciation, Ss. practice.
Ss. go to Jamboard and in pairs do a "fill in the gaps" task T. conducts OCFB
-Ss. brainstorm about words they know containing noun and adjective suffixes. -T. suggests more lexis related to throwing away things -Ss. go into break out rooms and discuss "for you, what is conscious consume?" and are asked to use some of the lexis presented (affordable, recyclable, achievement, retribution, ecological, economical, consumer, producer, regretful, grateful) -Ss. come back to the main session and share their ideas.
